MODULE DESCRIPTIONS
Module A. Intercultural communication in the hybrid workplace (2 ETCS)
By the end of the Module, you will:
- develop self-awareness of the impact of cultural values and identity on your communication style
- understand the “world” from the perspective of people with different cultural values and identities
- apply appropriate and effective intercultural communication strategies to solve conflicts
Module B. Effective management of multicultural virtual teams (2 ETCS)
By the end of the Module, you will:
- be aware of limits of your cultural knowledge and be able to adapt to different cultural contexts
- effectively apply three principles of intercultural collaboration: respect, reciprocity, and trust
- explain and apply principles of identity leadership to encourage trust-based collaboration
- design strategies and actions to enable effectiveness in multicultural teams
Module C. Learning through intercultural collaboration (Field trip to Poland; 4 ETCS)
By the end of the Module, you will:
- understand the processes of team and organisational learning
- explain how culture and institutions influence group and organisational learning
- examine and identify the conditions that hinder group learning
- design strategies and implement actions to acquire and utilize new knowledge in teams and organisations
Interactions across cultures are the source of diverse knowledge that is valuable for teams and organisations. This module provides insight into the different ways in which collaborations across cultures can enable learning. It also concentrates on the conditions that facilitate or hinder learning within teams and organisations. During the visit in Poland, you will observe concrete cases of how intercultural collaborations can stimulate learning in and across organisations and can also provide novel opportunities for growth.
About Poland
Poland is the 6th largest economy in the European Union and the largest economy in Central Eastern Europe. Since 1989, it has experienced spectacular growth, including after the global financial crisis of 2008. It has a dynamic and innovative ecosystem with strong clusters in different industries such as machinery, equipment, and pharmaceuticals. It benefits from a resilient, hardworking and well-educated workforce. Polish firms are customers of international firms, important suppliers, or service providers (shared services/ outsourcing). The Polish government, with the financial support of the European Union, makes major investments in infrastructure including roads, and railways. Polish business relationships are predominantly hierarchical, with a direct and formal communication style.
Module D. Fostering creativity and innovation of intercultural teams in the hybrid workplace (2 ECTS)
By the end of this Module, you will:
- understand the dynamics of diversity, inclusion, and creativity in teams
- know methods and tools to enhance team creativity for sustainable innovation processes across multiple boundaries (disciplines, cultures, nations)
- be able to develop and apply strategies that ensure team creativity in hybrid, national, and international work settings
