Electrical Engineering

HES-SO B.S. in Electrical Engineering

Overview

For full-time students, this program lasts six semesters. For work-study or part-time study (where available) the program lasts eight semesters. It provides scientific knowledge and techniques in electronics, mechatronics, electricity, and electric energy. This Bachelor’s degree program has three possible majors: Electronic & Industrial Automation, Onboard electronics & Mechatronics, and Energy Systems. An electrical engineer uses scientific knowledge and techniques based on research to design and develop electric and electrical equipment. This is a multidisciplinary program leading to sound theoretical and practical knowledge of a wide array of electronic, IT and energy systems.

Challenges

Every sector of society depends on the use of electricity. Electronic and electrical systems are everywhere and the technologies are constantly developing. Mastering these technologies represents a major challenge for the future. To innovated, businesses must be able to count on the capability of their engineers.

Career outlook

Depending on their major and aptitudes, Electrical engineering graduates have a wide choice of careers (eg machinery, transport, electric energy, information processing, leisure electronics). All sorts of engineering positions await them (eg R&D staff, production engineer, project manager, sales engineer, quality manager).
